(RRW) Athletics: Harroufi And Smith Defend Steamboat Titles

From David Monti © 2009 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com Ridouane Harroufi of Morroco and Kim Smith of New Zealand defended their titles today at the 36th running of the Steamboat Classic 4 mile in Peoria, Ill. Harroufi won a close battle with Tanzanian John Yuda, prevailing by two seconds in 17:44, the fastest winning time at this race since Luke Kipkosgei's 17:36 in 2004. Smith overwhelmed the field in a very quick 19:38, the fastest time at Steamboat since 2001. Kenyan Millicent Gathoni finished a distant second in 20:56. The race recorded 2,824 finishers.
