Triathlon: Brownlee second in rankings as World Championships series heads to London in August

Britain's Alistair Brownlee will arrive at next month's London race of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championships Series in second place in the rankings after sitting out the Hamburg race at the weekend.

The action moves to London on 15th August when the World Championships Series takes place Hyde Park, the London 2012 Olympic triathlon venue.

A sixth place finish by Germany's Maik Petzold in the Hamburg race was enough to propel him from fourth to the top of the series leaderboard after five of the eight races.

Victory in Hamburg went to Jarrod Shoemaker of the USA, who secured his first win in the Dextro Energy ITU World Championships Series. Spain’s Javier Gomez also opted to miss the Hamburg race and dropped down from second to third in the rankings.

Australia's Emma Moffatt took her third successive win of the series, which means she is guaranteed to go to the Grand Final on Australia's Gold Coast as series leader. Britain’s Helen Jenkins will go to London 10th in the rankings after not contesting Hamburg. Jodie Swallow, who joins Jenkins in the GB team for London, finished 21st in Hamburg in 2:00.12 -- exactly four minutes behind Moffatt.

The Dexto Energy event is also unique as it features the chance for the public to race on the Olympic Venue in the footsteps of the stars on August 16th. Organisers have recently added an Olympic Distance to the Sprint option. Entries are open until 24 July and details can be found at: www.triathlon-wcs-london.org.
