The first edition of the CIS Cross Country rankings were released Tuesday and the University of Guelph Gryphon men's and women's cross country teams were both unanimously ranked number one in the country.
The Gryphon men, who this fall are trying to equal thier record of four consecutive CIS titles, are coming off an impressive fifth place finish at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The team's average time of 24 minutes and 24 seconds for their top five runners was a school record and was 20 seconds improvement on last year's team; a team which went on to score 27 points at the CIS Championship, which equaled the lowest score since 1978.
The Gryphon women, are seeking their record fifth consecutive CIS Championship. The women placed second at the Paul Short Run after having won their first two meets of the season, including a record setting performance at the Western International.
The Gryphons will next be in action Friday October 16th at Pennyslvanina State University, the OUA Championships will be held October 31st at Brock University in St Catharines, with the CIS Championships two weeks later at Fort Henry in Kingston, Ontario.
