Athletics Ontario has released the 2010 Quest For Gold Athlete Assistance Program and the University of Guelph led the way among Canadian Universities with eight current Gryphons and three Gryphon Alumni receiving Ontario cards.
Among the Gryphons named to the list were 2009 University of Guelph Athletes Of The Year Lindsay Carson and Kyle Boorsma. CIS Cross Country Champion Matt Brunsting and All-Canadians Rachel Aubry and Courtney Laurie also made the list.
In addition to the eight current Gryphons, 2008 CIS High Jump Champion Michelle Moody, Canadian Marathon Champion Reid Coolsaet and former CIS Champion Triple Jumper Neb Zacharia were also all selected. All have each exhausted their eligibility but continue to train with the local Speed River and Guelph Track and Field Clubs.
The Quest for Gold Program was established to provide additional support to athletes from Ontario and to increase the performance and number of Ontario athletes competing at the highest national and international levels, thereby contributing to the improved performance of Canada at international competitions.
