OTTAWA - Athletics Canada announced today that team
that will compete at the 2009 Chiba Ekiden Road Race Relay in Chiba-City, Japan
on November 23.
Held annually since 1988, with mixed gender events beginning
in 2007, this road race relay covers the full marathon distance with a men’s
5km, women’s 5km, men’s 10km, women’s 5km, men’s 10km and finally a women’s
7.195km leg.
Canadian team leader Thelma Wright comments, “The Chiba Ekiden allows a highly
competitive opportunity for our top Road Runners and a chance to test their
fitness against some of the world’s best endurance athletes in this unique
mixed relay format. With the experienced athletes selected, the team plans
to improve significantly on last year’s 9th place finishing time of 2
hours 11 minutes and 56 seconds.”
