New Sprint Triathlon Takes Place in Newport, Sept. 25
PROVIDENCE, RI -- Triathletes who participate in the Amica 19.7 Newport sprint triathlon on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, will experience a scenic course that begins and ends at Second Beach in Middletown, R.I.
The Amica 19.7 Newport, one of 10 events in the 2010 Amica 19.7 Triathlon Series, features a half mile swim, a 16.1 mile bike ride and a 3.1 mile run.
The Amica 19.7 Newport kicks off with a half mile swim at Middletown's Second Beach. Triathletes will transition to the bike at Second beach and head out on Sachuest Point Road, passing St George's School, to begin the 16.1 mile ride through Middletown and Portsmouth. The one-loop bike course continues along East Main Road, Wapping Road and, Indian Avenue. The course then goes along scenic Third Beach and the Sachuest Bird Sanctuary and heads back to Second Beach, where the run course begins. The 3.1 mile run goes along Hanging Rock Road and Third Beach Road. The Amica 19.7 Newport finishes at Second Beach.

The inaugural Amica 19.7 Newport is part of the is part of the 2010 Amica 19.7 Triathlon Series, a sprint distance series of events held throughout the country.
