Athletics: USA Mountain/Ultra/Trail Championship highlights



Dobson, Lucas take men's and women's titles at inaugural USA 15 km Trail Championships

INDIANAPOLIS - 2008 Olympian Ian Dobson and his wife Julia Lucas of Eugene, Ore., made their trail racing debuts in style Saturday at the inaugural USA 15 km Trail Championships in Spokane, Washington.

Running 50 minutes, 42 seconds, Dobson won the men's title by 3:15 over Mario Mendoza (Cambria, Calif.) while Lucas won the women's title in 59:55, 45 seconds ahead of runner-up Gina Lucrezi (Medway, Mass.).

The championships, hosted by the Spokane Regional Sports Commission, offered more than $5,000 in prize money, with Dobson and Lucas each taking home $500 for their titles.

USA 50 Mile Trail Championships return to White River 50 Mile Endurance Run

On the same day across the state in Enumclaw, Washington, the White River 50 Mile Endurance Run played host to the USA 50 Mile Trail Championships for the 10th consecutive year with Tony Krupika (Boulder, Colo.) successfully defending his men's title in 6:25:29.

Meghan Arbogast (Corvallis, Ore.), added two more titles to her collection, winning both the open and masters women's titles in 8:10:51. William Emerson (Portland, Ore.) took the overall masters men's title in 7:34:40.

USA 100 Mile Trail Championships set for Ohio

Wrapping up Mountain/Ultra/Trail action on Saturday, the 2010 USA 100 Mile Trail Championships were hosted by the fourth annual Burning River 100 Mile Endurance Run in Willoughby, Ohio, with Todd Braje (Arcata, Calif.) taking the men's title in 15:29:24 and Annette Bednosky (Jefferson, N.C.) taking the open and masters women's title in 16:44:21.

The championships paid $10,000 in total prize money, including $1,200 each to Braje and Bednosky for the respective men's and women's open titles.
