Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell go head-to-head for the first time in 2010
Universal Sports provides exclusive LIVE look-in coverage of 100m sprint on Friday, August 6 at 2:50 pm ET
August 4, 2010 --- Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell, the three fastest sprinters ever to run the 100 meters, go head-to-head for the first time this year, and only on Universal Sports. The network will provide exclusive LIVE look-in coverage of the 100m race from Stockholm, Sweden, on Friday, August 6. Television coverage will begin around 2:50 pm ET and will remain LIVE for the duration of the 100m race. Commentators Paul Sunderland and Ato Boldon, four-time Olympic medalist, will call the race. The entire IAAF Diamond League meet in Stockholm will be streamed LIVE on www.universalsports.com beginning at 2:00p ET for a subscription fee of $1.99 that includes access to the full-length VOD replay. The Web site also will offer free highlights and expert analysis. The meet will be televised on Universal Sports at 8:00p ET.
This will be Bolt's first return to the Stockholm track since 2008, when he lost to fellow Jamaican Powell by a margin of .01 seconds, less than a month before the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The 2008 race in Stockholm marks the last time that Bolt ever lost a race. With U.S. sprinter Gay in the mix, this will mark the first time these three sprinters have raced each other since the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. Bolt beat Gay and Powell, who took second and third respectively in Berlin, and shocked the globe with a world record time of 9.58 seconds, which was .11 seconds better than his previous record.
The IAAF Diamond League is a global track & field competition circuit, and a replacement to the IAAF Golden League. The Diamond League series expands beyond meets in Europe, and includes competitions in Asia, the Middle East and the United States. Athletes with the highest number of points in each discipline (each discipline is held seven times) at the end of the season wins the 2010 Diamond Race and the diamond trophy.
