PROVIDENCE, RI -- Donny Forsyth was the top finisher at the Amica 19.7 Sprint Triathlon at Stumpy Creek in Mooresville, NC on Sunday. The 44-year-old from Charlotte, covered the 19.7 sprint in 1:10.11.
Tonya Houghton of Weddington was the top female in the sprint triathlon, which featured a half-mile open-water swim, a 16.1-bike and a 3.1-mile run. Houghton, 42 recorded a winning time of 1:20:13.
"The course was very tough, but I had a great time and the event was very fun. I was hoping to avoid the hills after my Lake Placid full-iron recently, but it was well worth the pain for today's victory," said Houghton.
More than 550 athletes, ranging from 13 to 74 years-old, competed in Sunday's sprint triathlon.
The Amica 19.7 a Stumpy Creek kicked off with the swim in Lake Norman, followed by the bike course went through Iredell County on rural country roads, then finishing with the one loop run course that continued through Iredell County.
The Amica 19.7 Sprint Triathlon at Stumpy Creek is part of the 2010 Amica 19.7 Triathlon Series, a sprint distance series of events held throughout the country. It is the sixth stop of Amica's 10-event series, which culminates in Phoenix, AZ, this November.
