Center is Signing Sponsors and Runners!
Northeast Arkansas -- August 16, 2010 -- The Northeast Arkansas Children's Advocacy Center (NEACAC), a facility designed for supporting children and collecting forensic testimony in cases of child abuse, is working on its first-ever fundraising event. The Center's 'CAP' Run/Walk, a 5K Child Abuse Prevention event is being anchor sponsored by Families, Inc. in celebration of the opening of their new headquarters location at Hilltop in Jonesboro. The race is scheduled for Saturday, September 11 at 8:00 a.m. and will begin and end at the new Families, Inc. building at Hwy 49 and Pleasant Grove Road. Runners can sign up at www.racesonline.com or contact the Center at 870-275-7902 for an application.
"Not only is this race for a good cause," said Mark Thurman, Chief Operations Officer for Families, Inc. "But, it is going to be a great course too. The participants will be on a route never run before in Northeast Arkansas and it promises to be beautiful and challenging."
The race course travels north on Pleasant Grove Road and then into tree-covered private property areas that have been opened by owners' permission for the 'CAP' run participants. The runners will return to the finish line located at Families, Inc. where they will receive gift bags, t-shirts, 'Pinwheels for Prevention' and participate in award ceremonies and other fun activities that will be part of the day's events.
"We are hoping to put on a run that the community will look forward to every year," said John Hardin, NEACAC Board Vice President and race organizer. "The Center is a critical piece to child abuse investigations and to providing advocacy for injured children. Our goal is to keep it open and help it expand its service offerings."
The Center is actively recruiting and signing up runners and sponsors. Families, Inc. is the event's Platinum Sponsor and race host, and other early sponsors include Ramsons Construction and the Exchange Club at the $500 Gold Sponsor level; Jones & Company, Oldham Law Firm and H&R Block at the $250 Silver Sponsor level; and Al and Aylia Poston and ASU's Dr. Larry Salinger are the race's first $100 Bronze Sponsors. Interested sponsors can contact the Center at 870-275-7902 or scover@neacac.net to get more information and to sign up!

About the Northeast Arkansas Children's Advocacy Center
Located in Jonesboro, Arkansas and serving eight regional counties, the NEACAC (www.neacac.net ) is part of a nationwide program that brings together law enforcement, social workers, prosecutors, and medical and mental healthcare professionals to respond to children with claims of sexual and physical abuse. The Center's program facilitates access to specialized medical examinations for health screening and evidence gathering. It also houses a child-friendly environment for video taping of forensic interviews with trained law enforcement professionals. The ultimate goal of the Center being to minimize the number of times a child is interviewed and reduce the child victim's chances of being re-traumatized by having to tell their story of abuse to another stranger. The NEACAC is a member of the Children's Advocacy Centers of Arkansas (www.caca.org) and the National Children Alliance (www.nca-online.org).
