Athletics: Felix named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Allyson Felix has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week for her impressive victories in the 200m and 400m at the Aviva London Grand Prix, which is the 12th event of the 2010 Samsung Diamond League.

A three-time World Outdoor champion at 200 meters, Felix survived a sluggish start in that event on Friday, but still ran away with the win in 22.37 seconds. Her nearest competitor, Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie (BAH), was more than half a second back in 22.88.

Felix completed her double on Saturday in winning the women's 400m in 50.79. Felix battled European champion Tatyana Firova and World Indoor champ Debbie Dunn down the final straight, but was able to hold them off as Firova took second in 50.84 and Dunn finished third in 50.89.

Now in its ninth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
