Carmelita Jeter will face the only two women who have beaten her thus far in the season, Marshevet Meyers and Veronica Campbell-Brown, when she takes to the track in the women's 100m on Thursday, August 18 at the Weltklasse Zürich, part of the Samsung Diamond League.
The IAAF Diamond League encompasses 32 individual event disciplines, with a points scoring 'Diamond Race' which runs throughout the 14 meeting series. Winners of each Diamond Race will get a Diamond Trophy and a cash prize. For complete rules and regulations, CLICK HERE.
Campbell-Brown beat Jeter at the Nike Prefontaine Classic when she won in a world-leading 10.78 and Meyers surpassed Jeter last weekend when she won in London in 11.01. However, Jeter has clinched her Diamond League trophy, as she is currently sitting atop the standings with 17 points to runner-up Campbell-Brown's six.
Jeremy Wariner is entered in the men's 400m where he will face competition from two-time Olympic 400m hurdles gold medalist Angelo Taylor and rising Jamaican star Jermaine Gonzales. Wariner has won each of the five Diamond League races that he's run this season. Wariner is leading the chase for the Diamond League trophy with 20 points to Gonzales' 10.
Allyson Felix, currently leading the Diamond League points standing in the 400m, will be challenged by reigning World Indoor champion Debbie Dunn and European champion Tatyana Firova in the women's 400m. David Oliver hopes to extend his win-streak to 12, when he runs the men's 110m hurdles in Zurich. Oliver currently owns the four fastest times in the world this season, and seven of the top ten and is untouchable in the points race with 20 while Ryan Wilson, who is currently in second, has six.
In the field, three-time World Outdoor champion Dwight Phillips leads the entries in the men's long jump, while the women's long jump features reigning World Indoor and Outdoor champion Brittney Reese. Phillips is currently leading with 16 points and must finish no lower than second place or he could be overtaken by Australia's Fabrice Lapierre, who has 11. Reese currently has a one point lead over Russian teenager Darya Klishina, who scored back-to-back wins in Stockholm and London.
American record holder Kara Patterson will compete in the women's javelin. Patterson sits just six points behind Czech Olympic champion and World record holder Barbora Spotakova in the race for the Diamond trophy.
