More than 29,000 runners apply for 22,000 slots; limited entries available through charity programs, VIP packages
HOUSTON - (August 16, 2010) - The Houston Marathon Committee has announced the participants selected for the 2011 Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon. The new lottery registration system attracted more than 29,000 runners over a 16-day period vying for a spot in the 22,000-participant field.
"Demand for our races has reached an all-time high, and while we understand the disappointment of those not selected, we are confident that the lottery system provided the fairest opportunity for runners to register and be selected for our races," said Race Director Brant Kotch. "Our organization is dedicated to creating a participant experience that is second to none and we look forward to hosting yet another exciting, safe and enjoyable race weekend in 2011."
The 39th Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon and El Paso Corporation 5K will take place on Sunday, January 30, 2011.
Each lottery registrant will be notified via email of their status through Tuesday, August 17. Runners may also check the result of their registration online at houstonmarathon.com.
Runners can still enter the 2011 races through the Run for a Reason charity program and USA Half Marathon Championships VIP packages. Details about how to enroll can be found on the event website at houstonmarathon.com.
