Triathlon: Amica Lake Las Vegas Triathlon Set for Saturday

PROVIDENCE, RI -- Nearly 400 triathletes, ranging in age from 15 to 64, are expected to converge at the Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort in Henderson, NV, on Saturday, September 11, to compete in the 2010 Amica Lake Las Vegas Triathlon.

"We are really excited to have Amica back for the second year in supporting this event," said Keith Hughes, race director for the Amica Lake Las Vegas Triathlon. "Participating athletes are going to experience a top-notch race at an exceptional venue."

Saturday's event features two races, the Amica 19.7 sprint distance and an intermediate distance. The sprint features a half-mile swim, 16.1-mile bike and 3.1-mile run. The intermediate distance consists of a 1,500 meter swim, 25-mile bike and a 6-mile run.

For both distance races, the swim takes place in Lake Las Vegas. Athletes will then head out on the bike course, which travels out of the resort, goes through the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and then returns to Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort. The run will continue through the resort out to the desert and head back to finish at the Village at Lake Las Vegas.

The Amica 19.7 sprint distance begins at 6:30 a.m., followed by the intermediate distance at 6:45 a.m.

Athletes interested in competing can register online at www.amicatriathlonseries.com. On-site registration will be held Friday, Sept. 10, 4-7 p.m. at the Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort. There is no race-day registration.

The Amica 19.7 Lake Las Vegas Triathlon is part of the 2010 Amica 19.7 Triathlon Series, a sprint distance series of events held throughout the country. It is the eighth stop of Amica's 10-event series, which culminates in Phoenix, AZ, in November.
