Barron continues race walking brilliance
Up-and-coming star U.S. race walker Trevor Barron of Bethel Park, Pa., posted an eye-popping performance over the weekend at the Nordic 20 km Championships in Finland.
Barron covered 20-kilometers in a blistering 1 hour 23 minutes 49.39 seconds, which is the fastest time by an American since 2007. His performance is the second-fastest in the world this season and bettered the U.S. Junior record by 18:31. However, the required judging was not present to qualify his performance for the IAAF World Championships.
Earlier this summer at the World Junior Track & Field Championships in Moncton, Canada, Barron smashed his own American Junior record in the 10,000-meter race walk, stopping the clock at 41:50.29 to place seventh overall. Barron clipped more than 30 seconds off the previous AJR of 42:22.79.
Goodhue sets national Masters record
In winning his age-group Monday at the 2010 USA 20 kilometer Championships in New Haven, Conn., Doug Goodhue of the Ann Arbor Track Club set a new U.S. Masters record.
Goodhue crossed the finish line in 1:20:05, which shattered the previous American masters M65-69 age-group record of 1:21:46 by Gerald Malaczynski by a margin of 1 minute 40 seconds.
