Athletics: Grandma's Minnesota Mile Set for Sept. 19

Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon Entries to 250 Finishers

(Duluth, Minn.) If you are looking to secure a spot in next June's Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon, you most likely will not find a better chance. The fourth annual Grandma's Minnesota Mile is Sunday, Sept. 19, and 250 finishers will be randomly selected to receive a guaranteed entry into the 2011 Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon.

The 250 runners selected to receive spots in the 2011 half marathon will be notified via mail. Those who receive the guaranteed entry will be required to pay the entry fee to participate in the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon, but will not have to go through the lottery process.

The Grandma's Minnesota Mile event consists of five divisions, including an elite division featuring a $12,500 prize purse. The race begins one block east of Fitger's on Superior Street and finishes near the Holiday Center.

A new division added for the 2010 event is the St. Luke's Walk-A-Mile For Breast Cancer. Grandma's Marathon is partnering with Duluth's St. Luke's Hospital to raise funds and awareness to help the battle against breast cancer.

The entry fee for all Minnesota Mile running divisions is $20. The fee for the St. Luke's Walk-A-Mile For Breast Cancer is $25, and $10 of each entry will be contributed to St. Luke's Foundation. Registration is available online at GrandmasMarathon.com.

Grandma's Minnesota Mile is presented by Advantage Emblem & Screen Printing, Austin Jarrow, Caribou Coffee, the Duluth News Tribune, ESPN Radio 560 WEBC, B105, Fitger's, Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, Kemps, Northland's NewsCenter, Super One Foods, St. Luke's and Verizon Wireless.
