More than 2,000 runners expected to sign up for The Official Training Program of the Honda Los Angeles Marathon presented by K-Swiss
Los Angeles, September 10, 2010 - Registration for next year's LA Marathon is open and
thousands of runners already have their sights set on the starting line. Getting there healthy
and prepared, however, takes work---and that's where Roadrunners can help.
Los Angeles Roadrunners is the official training program of the Marathon, which will
again feature the popular Stadium to the Sea course. The six-month training program is
designed to serve a variety of runners---from the beginner to the experienced runner alike---
with a range of different running styles and strategies. It's been proven successful at getting
tens of thousands of runners not just to the starting line, but through the finish line as well.
Led by Olympic medalist and New York City Marathon Champion Rod Dixon as coach,
the Los Angeles Roadrunners follow a step-by-step program aimed at preparing athletes of all
abilities to have a successful and enjoyable Marathon. Throughout the 26 weeks leading up to
the race, runners take part in weekly group training runs led by experienced pace leaders and
benefit from a comprehensive training manual and calendar, weekly guest speakers, and
technique and nutrition advice. All registered participants also receive a specially designed
Roadrunners K-Swiss training shirt.
"The Roadrunners program is a vibrant example of the transformative power of sport,"
said LA MARATHON LLC President Russ Pillar. "The program is exceptionally tuned to train
folks---from couch potatoes to experienced runners alike---to master the Marathon. With a
success rate exceeding 98%, we're not only confident you can finish the marathon if you
graduate from our program, we're certain you'll have a blast doing it."
This year more than 2,000 runners are expected to take part in the program at two
locations, Venice Beach and Chino Hills/Inland Empire. The kick-off event is this Saturday,
September 11th at 8:00 am at both locations: in Venice at Westminster Avenue Elementary
School (1010 Abbot Kinney Boulevard) and in Chino Hills at Butterfield Park (17671 Mystic
Canyon Drive). While runners may still sign up after this point if space remains available, the
programs are capped and race organizers expect to sell out quickly, so you're encouraged to
attend and arrive early at the location most convenient for you. Whether or not you can make it
Saturday, you can learn more at LARoadRunners.com.
