Runner's & Triathlete's Web  Athletics: Rono, Hussar Set Course Records Grandma's Minnesota Mile Results

(Duluth, Minn.) Kenya's Aron Rono won today's fourth annual Grandma's Minnesota Mile road race in downtown Duluth. Rono, 27, set a course record, finishing in 3 minutes, 58.18 seconds. Rono, who trains in Sante Fe, N.M., claimed the first-place prize of $2,000. Former Winona (Minn.) resident Garrett Heath, now of Palo Alto, Calif., finished second in 3:58.48 and Kenyan Felix Kiboiywo (3:59.33) placed third.

Canada's Carmen Hussar, 33, a resident of Ardmore, Pa., claimed the women's division title and $2,000, while also setting a new course record of 4:35.60. Hussar, 33, edged Amy Mortimer, of Leonardville, Kan., who ran 4:36.00.

A total of 532 people registered for the Grandma's Minnesota Mile event which featured five separate divisions --- Minnesota Mile (Elite), Duluth Mile (Semi-Elite), All City Mile (Recreational), Verizon Kids Mile and the St. Luke's Walk-a-Mile for Breast Cancer. The walk division was a new addition this year and raised funds for St. Luke's Foundation to benefit breast cancer research and awareness.
