MyNextRace.com runs The Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon For a Good Cause
Toronto, ON - The MyNextRace team mascot, Jefferson, has pledged to raise awareness and donations for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's, Team in Training, during The ScotiaBank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM). Dressed in full mascot-attire as Jefferson the dog, (Peter Donato), will run the 42.2 K on September 26th, 2010, with hopes of making it into the Guinness Book of World Records with a time that beats 4:30.
Donato has completed over 500 races, including 16 full marathons, but this Sunday he will run his first in uniform. Wearing the 25-pound mascot costume paired with a set of running shoes, Jefferson hopes for a better showing than Zamba the lion in London, England earlier this year. Zamba completed The Marathon, but missed the record due to oppressive heat on race day.
"I expect it to get pretty hot under all that fur! I have specific hot weather marathon running experience, in the Arizona desert at the end of an Ironman Triathlon 2008, and in 2004 a scorcher day at the Boston Marathon. When the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon announced the $2,500 Best Dressed prize this year it motivated me to raise additional funds for charity while also attempting to break a world record." Peter Donato, CEO and founder, MyNextRace.com.
The MyNextRace team and mascot, Jefferson, hope to exceed their existing goal of raising $2,000. Jefferson encourages other teams and media to challenge him for the prize of Best Dressed. If Donato completes the marathon in less than 4:30 he will hold the new Guinness World Record for running a marathon wearing a mascot.
