World championships bronze medalist Kara Goucher became a mother yesterday for the first time. She and husband Adam welcomed Colton "Colt" Mirko Goucher into the world on Saturday. Colton weighed 7 lbs., 1 oz. (3.2 kg).
"Mom and baby are doing very good but they are really tired!," Adam Goucher wrote in an e-mail to friends.
Goucher, 32, competed in the 2008 Olympic Games, doubling in the 5000m (9th place) and the 10,000m (10th place). She took the bronze medal in the IAAF World Championships in Athletics at 10,000m in Osaka in 2007. In last year's world championships she ran the marathon, instead, finishing tenth. Adam Goucher, 35, was an Olympian in 2000 at 5000m, finishing 13th.
The Gouchers live in Portland, Ore., where they are coached by three-time ING New York City Marathon champion Alberto Salazar.
