OTTAWA - Athletics Canada announced today the selection criteria for the 2011 Pan American Games and International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Championships.

The IAAF World Championships constitute the most important competition remaining in the London 2012 quadrennial. Athletics Canada has established the criteria consistent with its high performance mandate; the goal is to compete successfully measured by medals, top 8, top 12 and personal best performances.

The Pan American Games selection criteria are designated to select as large a team as possible within the allowable quota established by the Canadian Olympic Committee. The aim is to field a team comprising of a strategic mixture of our top athletes and athletes with less international experience in order to facilitate learning to win in an international games environment. Due to quota limitations athletes will be ranked using a step by step process (see full selection criteria for details) to establish rank and selection priority within the criteria.

The 2011 Canadian Track and Field Championships held in Calgary, AB from June 22nd to 25th will serve as the selection trials for both the World Championships and Pan American Games teams (excluding the Marathon and 50km Racewalk).
