MCM will Host Award Program on Feb. 2, as Sodexo Presents $1,000 to School
QUANTICO, VA (Jan. 31, 2012) - The students of James Polk Elementary School in Alexandria, VA will gather in the school gym on Thursday, Feb. 2 to receive the Healthy School Award from the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) and a check for $1,000 from Sodexo. The award assembly will include more than 500 students and will be held at 1:15 p.m., in the school gym located at 5000 Polk Ave.
James Polk is one of five elementary schools in Northern Virginia to receive the Healthy School Award for the most student participation in the Healthy Kids Fun Run held on Oct. 29, 2011. James Polk registered 240 students for the event that was held in Arlington, VA.
The Healthy School Award will be presented by MCM Director Rick Nealis and Miles the bulldog, along with U.S. Marines from Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA who will demonstrate ways to keep fit. Following the award program, the team from Sodexo will distribute healthy snacks to each student. Also in conjunction with the award assembly, the National Children's Museum's "Museum Without Walls" staff will feature programming focusing on physical fitness and activity as part of their MCM partnership.
Two more Healthy School Awards will be presented at Lynbrook Elementary in Springfield, VA on Feb. 8, and at George Mason Elementary in Alexandria on Feb. 16.
The 2012 Healthy Kids Fun Run opens for online registration at noon Eastern on April 4 at MarineMarahton.com. Parents can register kids for the event that will be held on Saturday, October 27th.
