Multisport: Sportstats acquires Race Headquarters

February 6, 2012: Sportstats, North America's largest sports timing company, has acquired Vancouver-based Race Headquarters.

According to a statement from Sportstats, the acquisition means the Ottawa-based company will time more than 500 events in 2012 - up from the 350 events the company timed in 2011.

Since its beginnings 21 years ago, the company has been involved in more than 1,800 races, including some of the world's largest marathons and most prestigious triathlon races. Included in the Sportstats race portfolio are marathon races in Honolulu, Ottawa Marathon, Toronto Waterfront, Toronto Marathon, Montreal and Quebec. The company has also timed more than 80 Ironman races, including the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii since 2004.

The acquisition of Race Headquarters adds a number of major running races to the Sportstats portfolio, including the Vancouver's Sun Run, the Vancouver Marathon along with the Victoria Marathon.

"The addition of the Race Headquarters events to our database will give us the chance to enhance what is already the largest results database in Canada," Sportstats owners Marc Roy and Isabelle Fradette said in the statement. "Athletes from across Canada will be able to keep track of their results on one site. We'll also be able to provide live results and updates to Facebook, Twitter, SMS and e-mail at virtually every major Canadian running event."

Race Headquarters president Lorraine Davidson will remain with the new company, as will all of the current staff. Andre Yelle, a veteran on the Sportstats team, will also be part of the new Vancouver ownership.

"Sportstats will have now have offices in Ottawa, Vancouver and possibly Calgary, which will allow us to provide excellent service to both races and athletes right across the country," Roy said.
