Athletics: 48,904 Registered For A Remarkable 2012 Vancouver Sun Run





Vancouver, BC (April 15, 2012) -- The 2012 Vancouver Sun Run was another triumphant celebration of health, fitness and community spirit with 48,904 registered. From start to finish, exhilarated runners, walkers and wheelchair participants gave it their all while enjoying the spectacular beauty of the City of Vancouver.

Kelly Wiebe from Regina, Saskatchewan claimed the victory in both the Men's Overall Division and Top Male Canadian with a time of 29:12. Finishing second overall was Kip Kangogo of Kenya with a time of 29:14. Officially placing third overall and second Canadian Male was Matt Loiselle from Toronto, Ontario with a time of 29:18.

In the Women's Overall Division, Natasha Fraser of Port Moody, BC took first place with a time of 34:13, beating Melissa Todd of Timnath, USA who finished second with a time of 34:39. Fraser also claimed the Top Canadian Female title. Kate Bazeley from St. John's, Newfoundland clocked in as third female overall and second Canadian Female with her time of 34:52.

The Vancouver Sun Run is the largest 10K in Canada.

The prize purse of $21,000 is allocated as follows:

Top three Overall Male and Female - $3,000, $1,000 and $500.
Top five Canadian Male and Female - $2,000, $1,000, $750, $500, and $250.
Top three Male and Female Overall Masters - $750, $500 and $250.
